Boxing for everyone!
ABOUT LIGHT-CONTACT BOXING
The challenge which Light-Contact Boxing is trying to meet is to make boxing available to everyone who wants to experience the sport without the usual dangers.
The way Light-Contact is taught is very different from regular boxing like Olympic boxing or professional boxing. In Light-Contact Boxing, the foundation is laid by training the trainee to touch the opponent with controlled punches. This may seem simple, but can be challenging in stressful situations such as fights.
The reward for following the rules and respecting the opponent is to win the fight by touching the opponent more often. This way of teaching boxing has proven to be very effective for children and adults who cannot or do not want to do regular boxing but want to do some boxing. Because safety is always guaranteed, this sport has been included as a new sport in the Youth+Sports programme.
MY COMMITMENT WITHIN THE LCBA
Within the LCBA I have the role of representing the association at local events such as beginners' tournaments or national tournaments. I am also involved in the LCBA as the website manager and a few other small things. I do this because I see the need for such a sport to motivate young kids to train and get them into the world of boxing.
In addition to my work with the LCBA, I also teach light contact boxing at the Boxteam Basel for the Freiwiliger Schulsport Basel-Stadt. This hobby allows me to learn how to coach young kids and to work with kids who come from different backgrounds but have one common goal: to box for fun.
Organising events with up to 100 boxers can be a challenge. But with good planning and a quick mind for new problems, it can be very rewarding!
